My name is Roland Lauth. I was born in 1989 in France, and I am a visual artist, DJ and music producer. I work with various mediums to create situations where the teaching and the staging of human feelings are discussed, where the relationships between sex, sexuality, intimacy and organization of urban and private spaces are questioned.

Reggie Voigtländer is a Dutch/German (audio) visual artist, working with photography, also resulting in installations and environments. She often uses day to day life as inspiration and utilizes ‘found objects or moments’. With her work she questions general assumptions and investigates universal aspects in relation to human existence. During her artist in residence with the Chinese European Art Center here in Xiamen, several new works came into existence, like (digital) videos, public interventions and photographic works. Inspired by several cultural aspects, she integrated that into some works that will be presented during the exhibition ’40 titles’.

Swiss Photographer Renate Wernli (1967) focuses on projects, which are not too popular in our rapidly growing and proseperous world.

Many years ago, before she became a Photographer, Renate Wernli was working in Human Resources. And what she loved there – to be in touch with people and to give people a voice – led her to make a journey to the U.S. to pursue this passion in photography.

She has an affinity with people who are not on the bright side of life. People who are forgotten by society, because they don’t fit into our perfect world, where creams, knives, clothes and jewelry make you believe in a good life.

Rumiko Hagiwara is a Japanese visual artist based in the Netherlands. Her subtle actions in conceptual art practices suggest people the different angles of perceptions in daily life. She draws attentions to ordinary phenomenon with her subtle sense of humors. These minimal interventions do not add, but rather address and point out the memories that usually pass by unnoticed as our attention is drawn away by the distractions of daily life. By making these subtle and tiny adjustments, she intends to return the viewers attention to these seemingly daily situations.

Rumiko had started an individual research project about sense of humors on Asia since October 2012 via several artists in residency programs in Institute for Provocation (IFP), Beijing, Tokyo Wonder Site (TWS), Tokyo and Chinese European Art Center, Xiamen. She has been collecting humorous phenomenon in societies and documenting them into her weblog-archive rumikohagiwara.enter-office.net

Rui Tian (CN)

Rui Tian workperiod at MAAS was about ‘Communication & Meeting’. Thrown between China and The Netherlands she also visited Brussels, Paris, Barcelone, Milano and Frankfurt. The impressions of these journeys she shows us at her MAAS-blog. During the Final Presentation Tian looks for the limits of freedom. It was the true spectacle as promised. In this presentation, Tin almost literally took the concept frontier as an intervention in the space: visitors had stooped the entrance to get inside; once inside nigh invisible lines crossed the space. In a touching speech Tin told the visitors of her trials and tribulations during her residence period.

During my countless walks in the streets of Xiamen I met all kind of situations and impressions which associated me for example with tenderness, fascination, joy, hope and reality. I visualized these and many more different emotions in a series of photos from the city. By displaying them on the ground it makes our visitors the vertical rising connection between reality and dreams.

For over a decade Brussels based artists Katleen Vermeir & Ronny Heiremans have realized acclaimed projects nationally and internationally. Their work has been presented in Brussels, Istanbul, London, Montreal and New York. The work of Vermeir & Heiremans has a long-standing relationship with architecture. Since 2006 both artists have been developing A.I.R, an ongoing research project that encompasses various collaborations in different formats. Their collaborative project examines domestic architecture as an ideological gesture. At the 10th Istanbul Biennial in 2007 they presented part of their research in a video installation. In 2009 they made their first short film The Good Life (a guided tour), a commission of the Arnolfini Art Center in Bristol.
They have participated in artist residency programs, such as P.S.1, New York and Platform Garanti, Istanbul. Since September 2009 they have taken up residency at the CEAC in Xiamen, China.

Belgian artist Ronny Delrue has made ceramic works with the theme of CCM:Center for Cloning and Manipulation, which are his new experimental creation since 2003. His works in the past were mainly drawings and paintings; however his change on the choice of materials is actually his continuation and development on the same theme.

In the past twenty years the images that Ronny has created are mainly about people. One of his artworks’ special characteristics lies in infusing various abstract thinking and perspectives of thinking in identifiable images. Thoughts on abstraction come from his strong demands on simplicity and purity, while simplicity and purity don’t mean synoptically dealing with images in a visual form; instead it’s sheer concentration of psychological experience.
