Pedro Bakker is a visual artist and staying for 4 months at CEAC in Xiamen and working on a performance project TO SCRRROOOLLLL. As a mid-career artist he collaborates with a very young female dancer Yùn Kê to choreograph a immersive dance. Old and new passionate stories will pass by, with unrolling a 4-meter-long hand scroll from the Dreams in Red Chamber created by Pedro, with references to the movie Lolita by Stanley Kubrick and a case of sexual harassment of a young student by her teacher. To oppose the macho Gangster of love (hip hop by the Getoboys) with the vulnerable feminist 米兔子 position in mainland China.

(1952 NL) Lives in Amsterdam and Pontremoli, Italy. His work has been in numerous exhibitions, both in the Netherlands and abroad. He had exhibitions at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Kröller Müller Museum, Otterloo; De Pont Museum, Tilburg, the Biennale of São Paulo and the Venice Biennale. His work is represented in collections such as Arco Madrid; the City of Seoul, Korea; the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and many private collections in the Netherlands, Germany, England, Italy and the USA. His work is represented by Galerie Hafemann in Wiesbaden (DE) and Nouvelles Images in The Hague (NL). Peer Veneman (b. 1952) became known in the 1980’s with colorful sculptures that somehow filled the space between abstraction and figuration. Ever since he took the liberty to make abstract and figurative works at the same time, denying the traditional gap between the two. Veneman plays with art historical traditions and is known for his unconventional applications of materials. Other constant factors evident throughout all his work are his refusal to do the same thing twice and the elaborate execution of all his work. During his residency in Xiamen, he experienced the totally different environment as very liberating. All works in the exhibition are “Made in Xiamen”!

The two videos by Phil Bosch are part of the Telluric series that opens up to the question of what is that shapes perception and how meaning is being established. The focus is to localize the unidentified space in what we see, what we think we see, and where not yet words have been found for.

‘Tellus’ means in Latin ‘of or belong to the earth’ and refers to the ‘Telluric system’, where the earth is being regarded as a living and breathing body where all natural phenomena and human activity are being established from their local context (and not by long distance forces such as the sun and the moon).

Pan Feifei was born in Shandong province of China.

Handicraft production has a long history in Shandong province. Feifei’s grandfather is a very good craftsman. She spent all her childhood with her grandfather, during those years, she always saw grandfather weaving or doing all kinds of handcrafts.

In her memory, traditional handicraft was very familiar and close to her. But gradually the strange feeling comes out. It makes her confused but also curious about this feeling. She tries to find a special relationship between the body, object, time and space.

Persijn Broersen and Margit Lukács address issues of identity and the fabrication of imagination in their work. With intricate layers of depersonalization, re-mediation and re-interpretation they demonstrate how reality, (mass) media and fiction are strongly intertwined in contemporary society.

Their work shows an intimate embrace, a continuous movement back and forth between real and mediated events, between occurrences in everyday life, in the virtual sphere, and in the media landscape. Their films, installations and graphic work have been shown internationally, including: the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Muhka, Belgium; the Centre Pompidou, France; and various international film festivals.

CEAC residency

French-born sculptor, Pascal Pierme is inspired by his surroundings. For the last 20 years, those surroundings have been Santa Fe, New Mexico. A lover of the outdoors, his work is directly influenced by the magical landscapes of his Southwestern home. Pierme’s pieces reflect a dialogue and love of his desert city that involves simplicity, nature, architecture and organic elements. “Coming here 20 years ago with expectations that I had to let go very early, I understood the humility and respect I owe to this land, an essential capital of the West.” From an early age, his grandfather’s garage studio inspired him to push the boundaries of his innovative mind and creative endeavors. Gaining notoriety in Europe as a promising young sculptor, Pierme had many solo exhibitions and showed alongside creative giants, including Pierre Cardin. Originally from St. Rafael, France, Pierme decided to move to New Mexico and settle in Santa Fe in 1997. Acknowledging his foreign status in America, he saw this as an advantage; seeing the surrounding landscape and culture with fresh eyes and incorporating these discoveries into his process. Uncovering peace and inspiration in his surroundings, Pierme opened a new chapter in his career as a sculptor. His evolved process and risk-taking has turned heads both nationally and internationally. Critics, curators, collectors and artists alike revere his ongoing bodies of work.
